This week a new set of emergency measures for the protection of public health from Covid -19 starts being implemented in Greece.
The measures mostly concern unvaccinated citizens. Here are the main provisions:
- Work in the private and public sector
The unvaccinated workforce must perform a PCR or a rapid test once a week. These tests will be performed exclusively at private diagnostic centers at the expense of the employee.
The test is proved with a digital certificate provided by the website gov.gr and must be checked by the employer. Employers are allowed, by law, to ask if their employees are vaccinated or not.
- Schools and universities
Unvaccinated teachers, academic staff, employees in tourism, catering, tv production, theaters, music and dance productions should take two PCR or rapid tests each week.
Citizen over the age of 12 will be able to enter courts, mortgages offices and cadastral offices with a certificate of vaccination or disease, a negative PCR test of the past 72 hours, or a negative rapid test of the past 48 hours.
- Schoolchildren and students
Unvaccinated schoolchildren must perform the two self tests per week. The tests are available free of charge and must be declared on the platform selftesting.gov.gr. For students, two laboratory rapid antigen tests are required per week, which are performed exclusively in private diagnostic centers at the student’s expense of 10 euros per test.
Unvaccinated travelers to all mainland and island destinations by plane, ship, train and bus need a rapid laboratory test up to 48 hours before travel or a PCR test within the last 72 hours. The rule applies to all travelers over the age of 12.
The rapid test is performed exclusively in private diagnostic centers at the expense of the traveler and the price is set at10 euros. Minors of 4-11 years need a self test 24 hours before travel.
- Hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, diagnostic centers and rehabilitation centers
Visitors need a rapid test within 48 hours before entering a public or private health facility, even if they are fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated visitors need a PCR test 48 hours before entering.
- Indoors restaurants and bars
Indoors facilities like cafes, bars, restaurants, taverns, clubs, nightclubs are open only for vaccinated customers.
Stadiums are open only for vaccinated spectators.
- Archaeological sites and museums
Archaeological sites, museums, indoors monuments, art venues and other art exhibitions are open for unvaccinated people provided they present a negative rapid test result of the past 48 hours. Minors up to 11 years old need a self test.
The unvaccinated need a negative PCR or rapid test once a week.
Wearing a mask is mandatory in all indoors places and outdoors when there are large crowds.
