European Universities’ Alliances are a new institution that aims to strengthen strategic partnerships between EU higher education institutions that will allow students to obtain a degree by combining studies in different countries and will enhance the international competitiveness of European Universities. Part of the overall plan is to encourage the creation, by 2024, the establishment of twenty  such Alliances.

So far seven  Greek Universities have been selected to participate in the new institution of European Universities, among which is the Hellenic Mediterranean University (H.M.U), member of the ATHENA European University .

The 4th ATHENA European University Alliance Meeting in Heraklion

Among the first to be developed is the ATHENA European University that includes the following institutions:

  • INSTITUTO POLITECNICO DO PORTO (Portugal) – Coordinator
  • HELLENIC MEDITERRANEAN UNIVERSITY (Greece)
  • UNIVERSITY OF SIEGEN (Germany)
  • UNIVERSITY OF MARIBOR (Slovenia)
  • UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI NICCOLO CUSANO TELEMATICA ROMA (Italy)
  • UNIVERSITE D’ORLEANS (France)
  • VILNIAUS GEDIMINO TECHNIKOS UNIVERSITETAS (Lithuania)

The ATHENA Consortium is supported by 11 Associated Partners.

 

ATHENA will receive a total of 7,500,000 euros in funding for the first three (3) years (€ 5,000,000 from the European Commission and € 2,500,000 from the governments of France and Germany) to prepare joint undergraduate and postgraduate study programs, as well as joint research projects.

The Hellenic Mediterranean University participates in ATHENA with the Department of Electronic Engineering (Chania) and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering (Heraklion).

Visit of the Universities’ delegations at archeological sites of Heraklion Crete

H.M.U students will have the opportunity to attend courses provided jointly with the other Universities participating in the partnership, courses that be listed in their degree annex. They will also be able to travel to European cities where the ATHENA Partnership Universities are located via Erasmus + to attend lectures and / or workshops and to exchange experiences and good practices with their colleagues from other European countries.
