Former Swedish ambassador to Greece joins calls for return of Parthenon Marbles
The former Swedish ambassador to Greece has added her voice to the Parthenon Marbles debate and has urged the United Kingdom to return them to Greece.
Krister Kumlin, who served as Sweden’s ambassador to Greece from 1993-1997, is the president of the Swedish Committee for the return of the marbles. She described the marbles as a moral issue, saying it was essential that all the parts of the ancient carvings be housed in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
Kumlin comments came during an event at the National Theatre in Stockholm, which was also attended by the Greek Minister of Culture, Lydia Koniordou. The British Museum, where the Marbles remain housed, remain steadfast in their position despite growing calls for them to be returned to Greece.
