TEDxAcademy is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the dissemination of remarkable ideas.
Once a year, TEDxAcademy organizes an event inviting remarkable speakers from all over the world who share their experiences, knowledge and ideas that really deserve to be heard in public opinion. Behind this whole event is a team of volunteers who work hard with a lot of passion and mood, unselfishly, as it generally happens in TEDx events worldwide. Each volunteer is committed to his work and has his / her own roles and responsibilities in the team, offering his / her time, talent and energy.
Considering that the world is full of interesting personalities, someone will easy realize how many important people exist in society, most of whom remain in obscurity or we have not heard anything about them. This year, prominent personalities from the field of scientific and social activity, artists, people engaging in technology, entertainment, design, as well as people with an academic and business background will be attend and speak at the TedxAcademy conference that is going to be held on September 30th at the Athens Concert Hall. These personalities will give the inspiration to discover together the best version of ourselves, our best selves, that is also the theme of the event.
Through their personal effort and experience in their field they will create questions such as: How is our vision for our best self? Do we make the right decisions? What gives us an incentive? How do we manage the risk? How do we perceive the future? Are we finally ready for our best self?
Speakers for TedxAcademy 2017:
Capsar Berry: Professional poker player. Having a degree in Economics and Anthropology, he will talk about uncertainty and decision making that leads to our best selves. Caspar uses the metaphor of poker to talk about how to deal with uncertainty in such diverse corporate environments as Google, IBM, Audi, Sony, Visa, HSBC, HP and more.
Maria Efthimiou: History Professor. Maria Efthymiou will be speaking about the timeless strengths of Hellenism over the past 4000 years. Maria is a history professor who spends time giving free history lectures all over Greece. Tens of thousands of people have attended her lectures. Maria teaches History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has written and edited history books and over 60 articles in scientific journals. In December 2013 she was honored with the "Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching - VASSILIS XANTHOPOULOS - STEFANOS PNEUMATIKOS".
Antonis Foniadakis: A world acclaimed dancer and choreographer currently serving as the ‘Resident Choreographer’ at the Greek National Opera, will discuss how art has shaped him as a person. Antonis has collaborated with world class dancers, choreographers and opera ballets, including: Maurice Bejart, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Geneva Ballet Switzerland, Lyon Opera Ballet France, Bern Ballet Switzerland, and more. He is also the founder of his own dance company “Apotosoma-Andonis Foniadakis". He received the Danza and Danza Award for the “Best Choreographer 2012” in Italy for the creation Les Noces in Maggio Danza- Florence Ballet.
Konstantine "Dean" Karnazes: Greek- American Ultramarathoner. An internationally acclaimed endurance athlete who will explain how we can find our best self by reaching our mind and body inconceivable limits. Karnazis was named by TIME magazine as one of the "Top
100 Most Influential People in the World." Among his most extraordinary accomplishments, he has run across Death Valley at temperatures of 125°F (52° C) and has run a marathon to the South Pole in -40°. In 2006 he accomplished a seemingly impossible test of endurance by running 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days.
David Katz: Social Entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of the Plastic Bank, the world’s only organization to monetize plastic waste, which is designed to provide a mechanism by which the most vulnerable and disadvantaged populations of the world can collect and trade plastic waste as a bankable currency.
Spiros Margaris: Financial Technology Expert. Venture capitalist and advisor Spiros Margaris is one of the foremost global thought leaders and experts in the fintech (financial technology) and insurtech (insurance technology) spaces. He is globally ranked the No. 1 fintech and No. 2 insurtech influencer by Onalytica and regularly appears in the top three positions in several industry rankings. He is a frequent speaker at international fintech and insurtech conferences and publishes articles on his innovation proposals, inspirations and thought leadership.
Anastasia Mikova: Journalist and Film Director. She will speak about giving voice to women all around the world. She is the co-director of a new film to be released in 2019 titled ‘WOMAN’ Jacob Morgan: Three time best-selling author, keynote speaker, and futurist who explores the future of work and employee experience. Jacob’s work has been endorsed by the CEOs of: Cisco, Whirlpool, T-Mobile, Best Buy, SAP, Nestle, KPMG, Schneider Electric, and many others. He is regularly featured in business publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, CNN, NPR, USA Today, Forbes, and others.
Melina Taprantzi: Social entrepreneur and the founder of Wise Greece, an awarded initiative that helps small producers to grow and offer food to people in need. A key note speaker at many international conferences and author of numerous articles dedicated to social entrepreneurship, she has been honored with an award by the President of the Greek Republic. She will talk about social entrepreneurship as an alternative way of doing business and giving back to society.
Nikos Vettas: Professor of Economic Sciences and General Director of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE). Having long experience in his field, Nikos Vettas will talk about how growth can be achieved in Greece despite the deep economic crisis, via outward looking companies in the international arena and through innovation, with scientists translating cutting-edge ideas and technology into competitive services and products. He will outline how this transformation, which will require fundamental changes in the functioning of markets and institutions, could take place.
Andreas Stavropoulos: Technology Investor. Andreas will speak about how technology is unstoppable and how it is shaping the world. As a Silicon Valley technology investor, Andreas believes it's all about helping people get their ideas to the point where they can touch the biggest number of people, and leave a positive mark on the world. He promotes and funds disruptive ideas that solve far-fetched problems.
Lina Nikolakopoulou / Lyricist & music producer: Important personality of the Greek music scene, lyricist and producer who will analyze the beauty of art and creation.
Pavlos Tsimas: Pavlos is a well known and respected Greek Journalist with a career spanning 25 years. He will talk about journalism in the 21st century and how social media have radically changed the way that we are informed.
