A significant rise has been reported over the recent Christmas and New Year period with hotels enjoying an increase. Notably, ski resorts were amongst the benefiters, which may have been aided by heavy snowfall in some areas just before Christmas.
The Mount Pelion region, overlooking the eastern city of Volos, was among those who enjoyed a surge in bookings compared to the same time last year. In addition to that, the resort of Arachova, popular with Athenians due to its proximity, also enjoyed a good period.
Western Greece also saw an improvement in visitors, which is largely down to the new Olympia motorway. The motorway connects the city of Patra to Ioannina and has cut the journey time from Athens by almost half. In addition to that, the motorway from Corinth to Patra was completed last year and has brought an increase in visitors to the Peloponnese town of Kalavryta among others.
