The SYRIZA-led government, ironically so opposed to privatisation due to their ideologies, are estimating that various privatisation projects, which some extremist left-wing MPs are trying to derail, will boost the Greek economy some €2bn.
The much-delayed project to re-develop the old Athens Airport at Hellenikon and the recently completed Egnatia Odos and Olympia Odos, connecting Western Greece are among the projects mentioned.
International lenders predict that they are expecting approximately €1bn between now and the end of the year, but emphasised that the figure is largely dependent on the Hellenikon project proceeding. If it does, it is expected to generate some €300bn. A Council of State committee is today set to determine whether a presidential decree on the Hellenikon project is legal.
