Officials of Greece’s second city Thessaloniki have begun the process of revamping its International Exhibition Centre, according to GTP. The tender inviting interested parties to draw up a master plan for the revamp and construction of a metropolitan park on the premises of Thessaloniki International Exhibition Centre (TIF-Helexpo) has been announced, with the approved plan to go up for public deliberation in September.
TIF-Helexpo management said it was also awaiting environment ministry approval in the coming months of spatial planning and environmental impact studies for the €120m project. “The tender for the master plan for the reconstruction of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center has already been announced and in 2018 we expect to award the project,” said TIF-Helexpo President Tasos Tzikas. In the meantime, three parties have expressed interest in drawing up a master plan for the center, TIF-Helexpo CEO Kyriakos Pozrikidis said.
The Exhibition Centre, which opened in 1926, resulted in the first Thessaloniki International fair later that year.
