IMF presses for further debt relief

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is making a last-ditch effort by once again calling for further debt relief for Greece. The fund has always been in favour of the move, but has faced a brick wall with the country’s other creditors, who are steadfast in their belief that there must be no more.

The head of the Fund’s European program, Poul Thomsen, arrived in the Belgian capital on Tuesday for a series of contacts with Eurozone officials, and according to sources has also visited Berlin in the last few days to meet with German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz, who replaced Wolfgang Schäuble last year.
