There is optimism that the Eurogoup meeting, which was held yesterday (Thursday), could result in an agreement regarding further debt relief for Greece as the country prepares to exit its bailout program in August. Officials remained in talks in Luxembourg, discussing the extension of the repayment period of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) loans.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel had said earlier in the week that she hoped Thursday’s Eurogroup would mark the “final step“ before Greece’s exit from the program. Government officials in Athens are insisting that the deal will be a positive one for Greece even though talks remain ongoing.
