IMF welcomes improvement but warns of challenges ahead

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognised an improved performance in the Greek economy, but stressed that many challenges remain.

More specifically, it said that Greece has ‘largely eliminated macroeconomic imbalances,’ but noted growth was still hampered by “significant crisis legacies and an unfinished reform program.”

Greece has relied on loans since 2010, when the financial crisis brought the country to the brink of financial collapse. In return for loans, successive governments have been forced to implement reforms, including overhauling the pension and social security systems, raising taxes and drastically reducing spending.
