Domestic airports see continued rise in arrivals as the summer season peaks
The number of arrivals into the majority of Greece’s domestic airports has risen significantly this year in line with the continued upward trend seen over the last few years. German consortium Fraport, which manages 14 regional airports, has reported the increase.
There was an overall rise of 10.3% in July with an increase of 14.1% over the first seven months of the year. In terms of international arrivals, 4.1m arrived last month compared to 3.1m in the same period last year. While there was also a rise in domestic flights, the increase was smaller in comparison to international flights.
Fraport have made a commitment to improve all the airports, in particular the busiest ones, such as Santorini and Mykonos. The size of both airports are very small when compared to the influx of arrivals during the peak summer season. Once the season is over, works on improving all of their airports will begin. A brand new terminal on the island of Kos will also be built with construction expected to begin later in the year.
