Government aims to capitalise on Macron visit to Greece
The SYRIZA-led government is aiming to make the most of recently elected French President Emmanuel Macron’s upcoming visit to Greece. The official visit, which will be from September 7th-8th, will provide various opportunities for the government. Boosting the interest of French investors and entrepreneurs will certainly be on the agenda.
More specifically, aides to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras are hoping to get commitments from French companies that have expressed an interest in investing in the Thessaloniki Port Authority as part of a privatisation drive that Greece is commited to as part of conditions from its creditors.
President Macron’s visit will be closely followed by that of Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. The objective of Greek officials will be similar in trying to bolster the Greek economy with investments. However, talks will also focus on the refugee crisis which has affected both countries.
