Lake Vouliagmeni in Athens to host classical event
Lake Vouliagmeni, a protected area for its natural beauty, has been selected as the setting for The Lake of Sounds event in early September. Organised partly by the Latsis Foundation, the program will begin on September 7th with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra in a concert titled “Fairy Tales and Magic,” with special guest Ukrainian pianist Anna Fedorova, artistic director of the recently inaugurated International Chamber Music Festival at Ede in the Netherlands.
It is also seen as a way to attract the interest of the wider public and to promote the site as a cultural venue. The lake is a geological phenomenon for its constant temperature of 24c, its therapeutic waters, and cave-divers keen to explore its network of underwater labyrinths. The underwater cave has been explored at a length of over 3,000 metres but its end remains elusive. Among the 14 tunnels which make up the cave, one reaches 800 metres in length making it the longest in the world.
