Eurostat announces a rise in Greece ESI
Greece’s economic sentiment index (ESI) improved this month according to a Eurostat survey published on Wednesday. The country’s ESI reading for August was 99 points, its highest in a year, up from 98.2 points in July.
Much of the improvement is due to the time of year with the tourism season being at its peak - well over 20m tourists will have visited by the end of the year. Consumer confidence also aided the positive stat by rising from -61.5 points last month to -57 points this month.
However, other sectors suffered a slight drop and in doing so affected ESI growth. Retail commerce declined as did the construction sector with both dropping -3.6 points and -49.2 points respectively.
