US Ambassador to Greece emphasises the ever-growing importance of Northern Greece
The US Ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt has stressed the important role that Northern Greece can play as the country aims to return to growth. He pointed to the US’s interest in investing in the region’s energy networks as an example.
Pyatt, who was sworn in as Greece’s ambassador in 2016 under then-President Barack Obama, told the Kathimerini that US investors have a desire to gain a stronger presence in the North which will gather pace over the next year in the run-up to the Thessaloniki International Fair of 2018 where the US will be the country of honour.
He also added that Washington and Athens are in full agreement that Western Balkan countries should mover closer to joining NATO and the European Union, if that is the course they wish to take. Pyatt also spoke of the close cooperation between Greece and the US and stressed the importance of the US NATO base on Crete.
