Greek prime minister to visit Washington
Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras will be visiting Washington next week for talks with President Donald Trump. Also on the PM’s agenda is a visit to Chicago for talks with representatives of businesses and startups, as well as with potential investors, are also regarded as very significant by officials in Washington. It has also been reported that Washington remains interested in further cooperation with Greece in the defence sector.
However, the PM's main concern is expected to be securing a more flexible stance from the IMF, one of its main creditors, to ensure that a third bailout review is completed by the end of this year and that Greece remains on track to exit the bailout next summer. The IMF has been the most vocal supporter of giving Greece further debt relief.
Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias is also expected to visit the US for talks with National Security Advisor Herbert Raymond McMaster on issues of bilateral geopolitical issues. Tsipras will be holding talks with Trump on October 17th.
