UK prime minister Theresa May has called on Greeks living in the UK to remain there after the country leaves the EU. Speaking to the Greek daily, Ta Nea, she thanked Greeks who have made the UK their home over the decades. This comes on the back of her recent offer to EU citizens that they will be allowed to remain. It is expected that the same rule will apply to UK nationals living in EU countries.
“We appreciate their significant contribution in our culture and society, in our universities and economy” she said. “Greece with its rich history and beautiful coastline will always be a popular destination for millions of British tourists.”
May has been under pressure as the EU continues to hold the UK to ransom as the Brexit negotiations stall. While the UK logically wants to discuss issues such as a future trade deal in parallel with its financial obligations, EU officials such as unelected leaders Jean-Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk are refusing to budge until the financial issues are resolved.
