PM’s visit to Washington fails to improve SYRIZA’s dire poll ratings

The latest poll released by the University of Macedonia yesterday showed that Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras’ recent visit to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump has failed to improve SYRIZA’s standings in the polls.

The poll showed that 31% of Greeks would vote for the conservative opposition New Democracy (ND) if elections were to be held today, compared to 18% who said they would back the ruling SYRIZA party. The neo-Nazi thugs of Golden Dawn emerged as the third largest political force with 7%, while Democratic Alignment was on 6.5% and the Greek Communist Party (KKE) on 5.5%.

To complete the grim picture for Tsipras, only 6.5% polled said they were satisfied with the government’s performance. Elections are unfortunately not due until 2019 unless snap elections were to be called.
