The new centre-left party, which will be led by PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata, who won the recent leadership contest, will be called ‘Movement for Change’, it has been revealed. The party will be officially recognised in parliament next month.

PASOK, To Potami and other social democratic parties will form movement for Change and the aim is to provide real opposition to the ruling SYRIZA party as well as the main opposition, New Democracy.

Stavros Theodorakis, leader of To Potami, spoke in Parliament yesterday outlining the new party’s aims and objectives. “Our aim is to make the Movement for Change a genuine movement for change in Greece,” said Theodorakis after talks with Gennimata, which resulted in the two politicians agreeing that a committee should be formed to coordinate the work of the two groups of MPs. Gennimata also spoke of her determination that the new party should provide a united voice.
