Chances of snap elections in Greece appearing more realistic

Some SYRIZA officials appear to be urging prime minster Alexis Tsipras to call for a snap general election as early as March next year following a difficult period which has seen further strikes, foreclosure auctions and a visit from the Turkish president to Greece last week.

Sources indicate that Tsipras is considering a cabinet reshuffle in an attempt to ease the recent criticism he has received as his party still try to claim that they are steering the country in the right direction.

To add to Tsipras’ problems, privatisations of Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE), Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) and Public Power Corporation (PPC) and the Elliniko plot development project must also get under way, both of which have been delayed because of some SYRIZA MPs.
