Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai held talks with Greek deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis in Athens last week with both vowing to forge closer links between the two countries. China’s presence in Greece has increased dramatically in recent times with its involvement in Cosco Shipping’s Pireaus Port project being one example.
The latest talks focused on building cooperation regarding China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative; a project that focuses on development of new road and maritime trade routes throughout Asia and Europe. The vice premier suggested the two sides should bolster all-round cooperation through major projects and support cooperation between financial institutions in various ways.
Dragasakis emphasised the importance to Greek relations with China, and that the SYRIZA-led government actively supports the Belt and Road Initiative.
