Athens International Airport once again reported an increase in passenger traffic for the beginning of 2018 having seen off a record year last year. It reported a rise of 6.5% compared to the same period of 2017 indicating that tourism is no longer restricted to just the summer season.
Even though the number of passengers on domestic flights dropped by 3.2% decline, international flights increased by a significant 12%. In total, 1.28m passengers passed through the airport compared to 1.2m from the same period last year.
The airport has experienced steady growth since 2014. In 2016, annual results reflected a solid performance for a second year in a row fueled by double-digit growth, this time passing the 20m mark, increased by 10.7% on year-over-year basis. 2017 recorded even higher numbers.
