The Greek Superleague is to resume after a two-week suspension following embarrassing scenes in Thessaloniki following a match between PAOK and AEK Athens, which saw PAOK’s former president invade the pitch after the referee had disallowed a goal for PAOK.

Greek football has been mired in corruption and hooliganism for years and successive governments have failed to tackle the issue. The lifting of the suspension followed Monday’s unanimous approval by the Super League of the terms Deputy Minister for Sports Giorgos Vassiliadis had issued for the resumption of top-flight soccer and of the Greek Cup.

AEK currently top Greece’s top division and hold a four-point advantage over the defending champions Olympiakos.
