Work on renovating the US Embassy in Athens has begun. The project, which the embassy announced, will be done by US-based Caddell Construction Company to renovate and rehabilitate the historic “Chancery” building, designed by Walter Gropius. It was inaugurated on July 4th, 1961.
The project is expected to take around five years. During construction works, thearea along Gelonos Street will be closed to the public, the embassy announced. The embassy has pledged to return the area to its neighbors in excellent condition.
Aside from the embassy in Athens, the US also has a consulate general in Greece’s second city of Thessaloniki.
